Horizon Floor Lamp from Target

2-20-targetlamp2.jpgSometimes the simplest things are the hardest to find. We've been looking for new floor lamps for our living room, and naively thought it would be easy to find a basic drum shade-topped lamp that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Instead we've been tearing out our hair looking for the elusive item - just something straight, elegant, and under $200.

We think we've finally discovered it in Target's Horizon Floor Lamp.

White drum shade? Check. Simple and straight? Check. Gives off enough light? Check (takes two 100 watt bulbs). Throw in the "maple finish" base and we think we have a winner.

$139.99 at Target, with free shipping.

I also found something similar, in an all chrome/metal finish with a very large drum shade, from West Elm last summer. Around $99. And trust me, I looked everywhere to NOT buy from West Elm (just my own issues with chain stores) but this was the best I found.

We have an almost identical lamp with a chrome base from Lowe's. $50.

I have the Lowe's lamps too - they come in both a floor lamp and a table lamp version. Chrome bases, simple shades, weighty pull chain hardware - I love them. They are also both dual bulb set-ups, so I can turn on just one bulb for ambience, or two for brighter light. $39.99 for table, $49.99 for floor. Can't beat it.
