IKEA REGOLIT Pendant Lamp

2-16-regolit.jpgWe braved the nightmare that is IKEA a couple of days ago. We weren't looking for anything other than some storage solutions, but while browsing through the lighting section, we noticed the new REGOLIT Pendant lamp shades.

Handmade of rice paper, each shade is unique. We like 'em because they're a little more imperfect, and so have more character, than the other paper shades IKEA used to sell (which we can't find on the website).

While they're not Noguchis, you can't beat them for the price. Available in three sizes, priced from $2.99-$4.99.

(And yes, we know you can get similar ones at Pearl River, but unfortunately, there's no Pearl River here.)

I love the look of these, but I want them in fabric and can't afford the ones I've found (Fortuny being out of my budget and I want something more modern), does anyone know of a great DIY site or book??? I feel most inept about making the form for it, the fabric part (patterning, assembly) isn't an issue, just how to make a "form" and make the end result look as professional as anything I might buy. TIA.

Couldn't you just use a cheap paper lamp as the form, build yours around it, then rip the paper one out?

have you ever looked at WORLD MARKET? i'm not sure if they have these stores near you, but i bought a bunch of paper lanterns (tiny ones, but they have huge too), for a tiny room that i use for storage & my kitties use as a bathroom. haha but hey, it has to be cute too, right? anyway, lots of the stuff there is kinda tacky, but some of the lighting is fun. you can get GREAT candy, cute chopsticks, & some fun cheap jewery. in fact, i got these really minimal sake cups (completely white) for just 69 cents. i use them for cat food bowls b/c they are exactly half a cup. anyway, try the store!

Sarah, thank you, I tried that but the cheap one I tried didn't hold up and bent out of shape easily.

mg: thanks, I've looked there, but haven't found what I needed.

I think I'll find a cheap one I like the overall shape of, take it to a shop that can make me a frame based on that design (though of sturdier metal), and see how that works out. Thanks for your ideas!

Rucy - this might not be quite the style you are looking for but West Elm has a round fabric pendant light right now for $99 http://www.westelm.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?partNumber=WE-PRODw275&storeId=17001&langId=-1&catalogId=17002&viewSetCode=E&parentId=WE-SH1WALPEN&retainNav=true&cmsrc=WE-SH1WALPEN

Thank you, becca! That's my back-up option as I know I can easily alter it, thanks.
