Kyouei Design Liquid Lamp

10-31liquidlamp01.jpgBeing less than graceful most of the time, we're appreciative of design that celebrates the imperfect in such a way that is purposeful, modern, and sleek. Japanese design company Kyouei Design's liquid lamps are the perfect example of just that. These stark white lamps are made from sturdy iron plate, but their melted look reminds us more of that glass cup full of white paint that we knocked over if it had been suspended in motion.

10-31liquidlamp02.jpgThe lamps come in three styles -- a wall mounted model, a table lamp, and a hanging version. We're partial to the wall mounted one, which we think would look great against a brightly colored wall to make it really stand out.

Kyouei's online store isn't currently selling the liquid lamp, but if you're lucky enough to find yourself in Tokyo, today through Monday, November 3, Kyouei Design will be showcasing these lamps as part of Designboom Mart Tokyo. In fact, Kyouei’s lead designer, Kouichi Okamoto has created a special light installation just for the exhibit.

I find it more than a little frustrating when a product featured on this site isn't available, unless you happen to be traveling to Tokyo.

See how pretty? Well you can't have it. To me, that's just mean!

It is a little cruel, but not everyone is from America either, so it's just as frustrating to see fantastic items that can't be shipped to your country unless you have a few hundred dollars to spare.

Anyhoo, love this little lamp, strangely subtle but somehow eyecatching nonetheless.
