Leave the Light On Oil Lamp

10-29-08 oil lamp.jpgWe're so impressed by the simple yet clever design of this lamp that we had to share. Think the matchstick is about to burn out, right? Not yet. Okay... how about.... now! Still no.

It's a bit of a visual illusion. The wick of the oil lamp is directly in the center of the "match", so the flame will continue to burn as long as there is fuel in the bottom. Of course as is often the case with clever design, it's not cheap (each lamp retails for $200), but we have to respect the designer for creating something with such wit, nonetheless.

seems like something that would be funny for about 5 minutes, then you've gone and wasted $200.

VERY cool - for $40 max. Not so cool for $200...

I may be the only one but, I think I would prefer the wick burning without the match. I think the novelty would wear off. And the price...

Wouldn't many, many well-meaning friends try to remove the match, ruining the effect (and maybe even the lamp itself)? That would definitely happen to me. (Also, $200? Ouch.)
