In the search for reasonably-priced sconces to replace the ugly fixtures in our rental, we find ourselves drawn more and more to table and floor lamps, as they go where we need them rather than where the studs in the wall are. This design from West Elm is one we're considering.
The reflective lamp base uses the old-fashioned trick of a mirrored surface to amplify the light from a 60 watt bulb. The beveling lends an otherwise modern style a little bit of retro, Hollywood Regency glamour, and the simple, rectangular shade is a well-proportioned topper for the base.

I adore all things shiny, whether they be mirrored or lucite.
Turns out kids love them too. As far as the resident toddler is concerned, all of those lovely surfaces are nothing more than fingerprint magnets.
Tiny fingerprints everywhere you say? Great! --it'll match the rest of the house! ; )
West Elm has some pretty glass sconce-like votive candle holders. I don't see why a good electrician couldn't turn them into real sconces with a lightbulb.
Windex isn't toxic, is it?
If glass cleaner was toxic, my mother would have left a swath of devastation, as she has many glass-topped tables and many pets that hop up on the glass before washing their little paws. Spritzing surfaces with glass cleaner is a daily event.
I'm loving the Thomas O'Brien-inspired crystal cube lamp at Pottery Barn...
