apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Plexo

Plexo's designers, a Bay Area triumverate who call themselves Grand Object, bill their inaugural product as a light sculpture that brings a magical element into any room.

We haven't yet seen Plexo in action, but it looks like a lava lamp for the new millenium. With a satisfying Chicklet shape, it's designed to sit on a table or hang on a wall and to be an object of mesmerizing fascination (it refracts light rays) that also fills a room with a warm, mood-enhancing glow.

Available directly from Grand Object (Thomas Wold, Sasha Panasik and Paul Villierme) for $70.

This light has actually been on my "to buy" list for a couple of months now. (Originally saw it on the Design Public website.) As soon as I decide where I want to use it I'm getting it!

It's actually not as cool as it looks, I saw it in person and its just a cheap ribbed piece of plastic that you fold over a small light. Looks great from a distance, less impressive close up.

This lamp is awesome and the possibilities are pretty cool. You could put several of them together to form sort of a pillow wall of light.

I bought this light and have it in my kitchen. I love the soft light it gives, especially when it's the only light I have on in the house after dinner is cleaned up. Once it's hung, you won't care that it's soft and flexible.
