Integrate an Art Shelf

0918_veranda01.jpg

This picture ledge is integrated into a living room bookshelf. By aligning the ledge with one of the deeper shelves at eye level, artwork fits into an overall composition of display and storage...

This idea is from Vicente Wolf's living room, as featured in Veranda magazine.

In this room I think I'd prefer to see those frames hung higher. The ceilings are so high, could benefit from a little visual direction.

The beams and the shelves and the ledge and the frame for the sofa amazingly make a fairly spare room look irritatingly busy, to me. It's probably not nearly as irritating in 3 dimensions.

Just looking at this photo makes me very uncomfortable, too, @Deborah. I'm sure it's a combination of the beams, the ceiling height, the metal bed frame on the sofa, "the cross" formed by the shelfing, the ornate red chair/table that just doesn't make sense, the hide on the floor. It's all just giving me an uneasy feeling. This is a great example of negative feng shui.

In this photo, it looks like there is a big room with all the stuff crammed tightly into one corner.
