We've been
following Amy's home projects with a mix of humble admiration and sheer envy. Working with a "shoestring budget", she takes her time finishing her projects, knowing that to rush her ideas would leave her with something less than her vision. The end results, whether a revamped piece of furniture or a total room redecoration, reward her with their pure and total gorgeousness. Check out the before picture below the jump....

I've seen this bed so many places but it's the first time I've seen it painted. It looks great. I also like the colorful artwork against that soft gray wall (it is gray, right? or is that just the lighting??)
I collect '39 worlds fair stuff, too ... ha. I can't believe someone else does too!

Wow, amazing job. One thing I noted is how many birds you have in there. I've always been a fan of bird pictures etc but I've never been able to have them in my house because in Russian culture it's considered very bad luck to have images of birds in your home. My mom is very supersticious and would absolutely kill me.

I like the yellow with the gray wall too. I'm doing gray and yellow as well. Can you tell me what the color is? Thanks!

ridge_van_winkle and jede-
The walls are gray, yes. It is called Filtered Shade by Valspar. I am very happy with it. I now wish I would have painted every room in the house this shade. :)

Excellent! I have the same bed. I like the original finish, but it's nice to know that it can be changed if I ever tire of it. haha.

Great color for the bed. Can you explain how you painted it including what kind of paint you used?

Painting the metal frame bed
-I first sanded it down with a lighter sandpaper to roughen the surface a bit.
-Cleaned it off with a tack cloth.
-Applied Kilz latex primer
-Applied 3 coats of an eggshell latex paint (3 coats gave it a nice even coat in the end).
-Applied 2 coats of a satin water based Poly, for protection.
-I used sponge brushes (seemed to cover the best and most evenly for this project)...and I also used one of those Mitts for painting (you wear it like a glove). It allows you to get in the corners and all around the metal posts...worked great for this.

a former roommate had that bed, and i'm not going to lie, i passionately disliked it (and her, so maybe i was projecting...). it was just a dull bed in her dull room... but WOW! i'm floored, and now wish that *i* was the one with that bed!
