Look! Jess Lives in a Yellow Submarine

Themed rooms have been a subject of controversy around here in the past, but even doubters might have to admit that Jess’ Yellow Submarine guest room is a success. She took the theme way beyond knick-knacks and wallpaper, crafting beautiful handmade décor to honor her favorite Beatles song. A staggeringly vast collection of memorabilia is displayed lovingly and with style. More details after the jump…

A spare room seems like the ideal place for themed décor. Your guests can enjoy the whimsy during their stay, and your own exposure to it is limited, so you won't get tired of it easily.

Here are some more details to go with the photos of Jess' labor of love:

FIRST ROW

1 An overview. This shot shows how important it is to keep a room like this organized.

2 Jess made the bedspread, quilting together fabrics that represent the "seas" in the movie.

3 Curtains are handmade too, from Ikea fabric.

4 Yet another DIY: a felt mobile with shapes from the movie themes.

5 Jess and her husband use this Ikea shelving unit to store their various media collections, along with their Yellow Submarine memorabilia.

SECOND ROW

6 Jess used a dremel tool to hand-carve these amazing little wooden submarines.

7 Wow, they have a LOT of Beatles stuff.

8 More memorabilia, and some vintage embroidery.

9 The windows of this cabinet are used as frames for the couple's Yellow Submarine trading card collection.

10 A fun vignette with a Yellow Submarine lava lamp as its focal point.

Read Jess' own words about her themed room on Craftster.

Thanks for sharing, Jess!

Bedframe needs a box spring. Srsly. It's OK, it'll look better. We'll still respect you.

Much cuter and more tasteful than I thought it was going to be. Nice work, Jess.

Too busy and cluttered for me, but I do love the curtain fabric with the yellow walls. (It might help some if the curtains were lined, the glare makes everything hurt my head!)

Sweety nostalgic. If that room was in my house, I would be in it all the time, imagining a time when things were a lot simpler and musicians actually wrote their own songs and played instruments.

Seaside, the Beatles were actually one of the first bands to even write their own songs! If you're not listening to the crap on the radio, the vast majority of bands today write their own songs. My boyfriends band is currently recording their 3rd album, and he is greatly inspired by the Beatles and Brian Wilson (Beach Boys).

I took a class on the Beatles in college. One of the most fascinating courses I have ever taken. The impact they had on the recording industry as a whole is nothing short of phenomenal.

This is a really pretty room. Its only until I look closer and see that EVERY detail is Yellow Submarine related that I shudder. What about other bands and influences?
