apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

1970s-Inspired Library at Modern by Design

It seems that the 1970s are on a lot of people's minds right now, and we can't think of a room that encapsulates the good style points of that decade better than this library designed by Nicole Hollis for Metropolitan Home's Modern by Design show home. You'll have to bear with us on the quality of the photos here - sexy ambient lighting may be conducive to a lot things, but taking a good picture isn't one of them...

The lounge-like library included several nods to the 1970s, like the awesome yellow eight-track, plush carpeting, and stacks of vintage magazines (including a few Playboys in there, we think). Again, the Studio 54 style atmosphere might not come through so clearly in the photos, but we wanted to give you a peek, nonetheless.
The home is open now on weekends and tickets are $25 with proceeds benefiting the San Francisco Ballet. For more information, click here.

LOVE this, but I'm crazy for anything 70s.

You can't go wrong having a Weltron 2001 8 track player in your home! It's a shame that the pictures are not better cause it looks like a pretty cool room. I'm in love with that rolling bar cart and would love to know more information on it...if its vintage, or a new reproduction.

I lived in the 70's. I didn't like it them and still haven't warmed up to it. I'm glad to hear there are people who appreciate the look! Every era needs some great fans to keep it alive.
