apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

AT:SF Launch Party: Yeah, Baby!

2006_08_17_Party.jpg Maxwell greets SF @ Propeller

That party was a good party.

We're equal parts excited and relieved. Not only was last night a great (official) beginning for AT:SF, but the turnout and the incredibly positive tone tell us that our area is ripe for apartment therapy. We'd suspected it, but now we know it. So we can say this with more confidence: Hello San Francisco: we're here and we're staying!

We heartily thank Lorn and Katherine of Propeller for graciously hosting us, and Arlequin for giving us a break on the wine. And we also thank YOU, for turning out!

The highlights: linking faces to screen names, hearing the AT genesis story from Maxwell (pic), unmasking the top commenters, sharing Lorn's and Tara's third wedding anniversary, enjoying the summer rosé and oohing and aahing over all the cool stuff in the store.

Pictures will be posted shortly!

Ditto! Just want to say that though I pretty much glued myself to Wende and Dana (I'm shy at parties) the people who attended were delightful: friendly, opinionated, and just the kind of people I would enjoy getting to know better. My suspicions about ATers were confirmed: a real community is forming.

Ditto above comments. Thanks guys for hosting a lovely get together.

(and ebrown I'm shy at parties too)

What ebrown doesn't realize is I'm shy, so I was clinging to her.

GREAT party -- just a wonderful evening!

What a fun time, and now Maxwell's inspired speech has encouraged me to stop lurking! Maxwell, Leslie, and Lisa - it was *fabulous* to meet you guys. Wende, Scott, e, and everyone else I met - you guys rock!

Lorn - it was great meeting you, you have a neato store, and again happy anniversary to you & Tara!

I volunteer to bring the name tags next time so I can figure out a sticky material that will stick to my clothes! There should be a design solution for this...

My girlfriend and I wanted to go to this, but we just couldn't make it out. I'm new to the site, but have been checking it for a few months now. I've gotten a lot of good tips from it and I love diggin' on all the new products and 'slinks'.

We live in Oakland, not SF. My gf just moved into the apartment about a month ago, but prior to that I had been trying to furnish it in a red/white/blue color scheme. We're still continuing on that path and trying to make it look like a cool little place... on a budget. This site has offered a lot of ideas!

oh yes, and: my, what a good-looking crowd! Until Apartment Therapy starts an official dating service, all available boys can send their resumes straight to me.

I only have two regrets: I didn't strike up the courage to talk to Maxwell and Enrique wasn't there.

posted by ebrown on 2006-08-20 21:29:49

Okay, so I'm kind of relieved Enrique wasn't there. I brought a friend with me and wasn't able to circulate freely. This whole time I thought I'd missed meeting Enrique in person ;-)

Tara: Did you used to Lindy in the mid-90s?

Sounds like everyone had a good time. I can't wait until the Boston site is up and we get to have a get together!

You didn't talk to Maxwell, ebrown? Shame on you!

Hey, he chatted with me, and I'm the person who yelled at him for something like 1,500 words about project planning in that one 9-Month Cure thread. I only bother with that level of emphaticness for people whose fates matter to me, but this is not necessarily a good thing from the victim's side of the table.

Maxwell is really, really, really nice. Talk to him next time.

Just seeing Maxwell standing on the table in his stocking feet made my day . . .

as a shy non-poster on the AT site, I was just a bit intimidated about coming to the party, afraid that I'd be a wallflower, the only person present who was unable to discuss the intricacies of mid-century design. But everyone was lovely and friendly and unpretentious... That, plus Maxwell's bright-orange socks, made me feel right at home.
