Design Details in the Modern by Design Master Suite

There were so many interesting details in the master suite at Met Home's Modern by Design show house that we don't think we can fit it all in one post. We'll save the bathroom for another time, for now check out the spacious bedroom and attached office...

Designer Gary Hutton was kind enough to fill us in on some of the more intriguing aspects of the space. Here's what we found...

  1. A look at the bedroom in the master suite.

  2. Hutton planned on using two of these cardboard table sets from Vitra for the nightstands, but when only one could be procured...

  3. He created his own nod to the Gehry original by using stacked and tied cardboard boxes with a glass top for the other side of the bed.

  4. A sitting area to the side of the bed.

  5. At the entrance to the suite is a "map" of sorts, pinpointing with little balls all recent seismic activity in the US. Notice the cluster of beads close to the door? That's the West Coast.

  6. A look at the office of the master suite.

  7. The curtain fabric looks and feels like felt, but is actually made from recycled plastic bottles. Dowels take the place of a curtain rod, placed to hold the grommetted fabric.

  8. Gnomes from CB2 keep watch out on the balcony.

Hopefully they don't have to close that curtain often. I personally don't like the look of the cardboard for a night stand.... He couldn't share part of the other set?

That said, the room is huge and looks wonderful for lounging in. I love the colours too - very elegant.

I rather like the two cardboard box night stands. I think they create an interesting conversation with one another. But with that said, there's not enough color in this room and I suspect the photog isn't of high enough quality to really show what is there off properly.

Agreed, the photography doesn't do the space justice.

Um - the Cardboard nesting tables aren't designed by the Eames'...
...they're by Frank Gehry.

And the bound cardboard topped by glass on the other side of the bed is unbeautiful.

But the desk is splendid - Source?

thanks for catching that bebsf.
as for the desk, i believe many of the pieces in the suite were designed by Hutton specifically for the space. i'm not positive the desk is one of them, but that would be my first guess.
