Not to be confused with Queen Anne High School, which was converted to condos in 2006, West Queen Anne Elementary School led the local trend when it was converted in 1987. The 110-year-old school sported a stand-alone gymnasium which was transformed into a jaw-dropping, 2-story loft.
The space has retained some of the characteristics of its previous life, such as an auditorium stage with stairs that provide extra seating. But mostly the loft is an architectural wonder, with a two-story library in the entryway and a guest suite accessed by a ladder.
The current owners are also an art collectors with an art publishing company and have decorated the place with interesting salvage, such as the Portuguese crab pot chandeliers and a redwood table supported by limestone columns felled by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
The Seattle Times has a great article on the condo and its current owners, who have listed it for sale for a cool $2.35 mil.

Hey AT -- it's great that you realized the old image viewer was terrible, but why did you replace it with this atrocity?
If you're loading the large images with ajax, which seems to be the case, how about a loading gif? What you've got happening is a major usability problem. I click on a thumbnail and I get NO feedback -- how do I know if the click registered or not? You could even just preload the larger images--they're not very big anyway.
Sorry to rant, but for a major blog like this, where photos are central to the experience, it's unfortunate that you haven't been able to implement an effective photo viewer, especially when there are perfectly acceptable, free, easy-to-implement solutions available.

Also, why on earth is "click thumbnails for larger pics" a link?

the bathroom is the best looking room in the whole place.....

The only room I even remotely like is the bathroom...and that is perhaps because the wood on the ceiling gives it some warmth. The bedroom ceiling was dreadful and the living room looks more like a hotel lobby with the art and seating areas rather than a comfortable home. This left me a bit cold. On a positive note, the big windows in the place are fantastic and the wood floors are lovely.

nighttrain811 has it right about the thumbnails. It's making me crazy.
I really like this condo, I'm surprised there aren't more positive comments. Of course, the very first photo is what really did it for me.

Funny thing is I used to walk by that place when I lived in that area of Seattle (base of the South slope and would walk up the hill all the time but never took the same route twice. :-)
That first photo really took it for me and I do like the space overall, I do find things like the bedroom needed to have its ceiling finished to finish off the space.
Quite interesting and do agree, even the images kind of load a little slow, at least they do here at work.

Some parts I love like the bi-level library/gallery, the terrazzo floors and countertops, the uber-long sofa and grand windows...
...other ideas I just don't get like the redwood plank (dining?)table and the small round dining area elsewhere in that room - and the bedroom seems like a nuclear fallout bunker.

LOL when i saw the headline, I immediately thought of QA HS. I have a friend that lives in there actually, it looks reallllly nice inside, but it's kind of funny because they didn't do anything with the stairwells, so they're your typical old HS stairwell, with the super wide short steps.
The first time I went over to see the place, my buddy opens the door and I go "I wonder how many kids got their asses kicked in what is now your entryway."

Well I certainly love how bright you've managed to make your home... with all that cement it could easily end up like a dreary, grey Seattle day!
