Look!: 16th St. Mission BART Station Fence

5-15-mission2.jpgWe love it when people think outside the box, especially in public spaces. The fence surrounding the stairwell at the 16th St. Mission BART station is a great example of this - instead of boring wrought iron the fences are made of panels cut to look like colorful Mexican paper flags. Brilliant.

I walk by this every day, twice a day. Too bad it's probably got some kind of human liquid on it.

They are pretty much the nicest things to see at that Bart station. And gives you something to stare at when you're trying to ignore everyone else around.

These are great but public art isn't exactly "thinking outside the box". Cities have competitions and RFPs for this sort of work. BART didn't just decide to go all wacky.

Yes, I *just* noticed these the other day (the consequence of either early morning-trance or Bart-trance), and they're great!
