Surfing flickr we came across a photostream from Sylvie Oxman, the Los Gatos-based owner of
Blossom Home Vintage Furnishings. Sylvie refurbishes vintage furniture and recently re-did her own livingroom using some of her salvaged finds. Before/after pics are after the jump.
This is the before.
Better Homes & Gardens featured the project as a Best Under 5K Update, but
Sylvie's flickr set has the tell-all, with more pictures and notes.
This is the after.
Cottage Style's fatal flaw is usually its antiquated preciousness, but this room's great color palette and its brightness and sense of space feel more modern. What makes it work for us is the large, B&W fabric print on the wall above the sofa, which gives breathing room to all the other colors and patterns. And the addition of that vintage alphabet cube is a stroke of subtle graphic genius.
Sylvie's shop set is also worth checking out.
she also got an award for decorating on a budget. I love the transformation of her apt and she is definetly an inspiring decorator.

I know I've seen that photo of the blue dresser w/ the ship paintings over it, but I don't get Better Homes and Gardens. I wonder if it was featured elsewhere?

This home was featured on Design Sponge a while back.
I love that alphabet table.

Merci Beaucoup Lisa!! You are a great writer, and you have exceptional taste!
Hi Becky. Someone at Sunset Magazine told me that I was on Design Public's blog (a couple of months back?). Maybe that's where you saw the blue dresser! I have a PDF of the article posted on my Flickr if you're interested in seeing it:

And merci for the compliment Muhtari :) That's very kind of you. It can be frustrating sometimes, living and designing in obscurity, not having perspective on what I'm doing. I appreciate the support.
