Look! A Tricked-Out Treehouse

Many of us likely associate tree houses with childhood fantasies. Still others never gave up the dream. This tree house built by a team of builders and designers at The TreeHouse Workshop is a retreat suitable for grown folks.

The Seattle company uses salvaged materials for their designs, and the irregular pieces make great, whimsical details.

Any experienced treehouse builders on? We've got a 100' oak that has to come down (sniff!), and we're hoping we can leave 6-7' of stump (4' diameter) and use it as a platform for a treehouse, maybe with an 8'x'8' trim. Any suggestions on how to anchor it securely? None of my extensive treehouse research has ever shown something like this.

ljbmonkey--The true spirit of tree house building is improvisation. Your situation doesn't sound any different from any tree house built in a living tree, except that the tree will not extend out the top of the building, right? The classic design is to use the trunk of the tree like the hub of a wheel...floor joists radiate out like spokes and are supported by braces against the lower part of the trunk. Do a google image search for stump house. I came up with a lot of great images.

Oh...this is magical! I guess the only downside would be the safety concern in calamity (hurricanes, earthquakes, etc.)
I would still want to live in it.
