apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Look! abchao's Wall of Plates

11-11-abchao.jpg

Although hanging plates on a wall isn't a new design idea, when we saw this photo posted in abchao's Flickr photostream, we just had to share. For those of us hoping to update our dining rooms for the holidays, this project is easy on the wallet yet has such a polished look.

Prior to the plate installation, the previously tan walls were given a soft gray coat of paint. If you haven't already seen abchao's Apartment Therapy house tour, we highly recommend checking it out for even more inspiration. (She is one talented lady!)

That wall/buffet display look great...

...but the chairs are out of place - and the tablecloth is awful.

Chao Camp is my favorite house tour, ever. The balanced colors, the playful touches, the cherished collections... just yes.

Love the lampshades here, and the gray paint is a lovely choice.

Plates-on-the-wall looks contrived to me. I like them stacked on open shelves like god and nature intended.

holland,
I'm always amazed by "god's" intentions for ceramics....

I adore the symmetry and the lamps so wonderful. And I love that color of gray - if abchao checks in, could you tell what color you used?

@bepsf: I totally agree about the chairs, but the awful tablecloth is hiding a multitude of sins right now. I'll have to get on to Anh-Minh for posting a less-than-perfect picture! (Just kidding, A-M. xoxo)

@alitris: I used a color from Martha Stewart's discontinued line of paint from Sherwin-Williams -- if you can find swatches, they'll still mix them up for you. I believe there is actually a person online who will sell you old swatches. This one is called "Atlantic Fog."

Please, holland, some separation of church and plate, please?
