Joy. Target is decorating for the holidays by teaming up with one of our favorite artists, Portland-based Amy Ruppel. We stopped by this weekend to check it out in person.

Amy's trademark birds were instantly recognizable when we walked through the door. Mainly concentrated by the entrance and over the seasonal products, we have to admit to wishing that there was just a little more of it all.

We were also disappointed that this year's holiday product line is relegated to disposable items like paper plates and gift bags (we used our ceramic salad plates from 2006's Tord Boontje line all year.) Despite these reservations, it's certainly nice to see a great independent artist like Amy gain access to such a wide audience.

As far as we can tell, the Amy-designed products are only available in store, but if you look closely you can see some of her detailing on Target's website.
Has anyone else stopped by Target lately? If so, what did you think about the decorations, and did you recognize Amy Ruppel's hand in them?
Our targets (in Chicago) have far more Christmas merchandise out. I love the Christmas home decor selection this year. There's a neat glam aesthetic. I particlarly like the mirror trees (http://www.target.com/Mirror-Decor-Tree-Collection/dp/B000VVXZMS/qid=1194889825/ref=br_1_10/601-7211965-5516908?ie=UTF8&node=371625011&frombrowse=1&index=target&field-browse=371625011&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=2) and mirrored advent calendar (http://www.target.com/Mirrored-Advent-Calendar/dp/B000RKXDEI/qid=1194889919/ref=br_1_3/601-7211965-5516908?ie=UTF8&node=372475011&frombrowse=1&rh=&page=1)

I'm digging the woodsy looking critters they have, similar to the cute black crows and owls they had during halloween. I think I'll be getting a little christmas owl this year. I also like he birch bark reindeer and the antler candle holders. I was drooling over everything though and even pushing the buttons on the christmas cd previewer. christmas always makes me feel like a happy kid again, and target brought that feeling out early.

Actually, Target has a line of "real" products like dishes and cups and what not that's actually quite attractive. In particular, a line of black/white/silver dishware that, like accidentaldomestic said, has a really chic "glam aesthetic". At my local Target they had them in the home decor section, away from the seasonal section.
