Amidst the recent interest in black houses here and around the blogosphere, we found this creative way to deal with a heavily grafitti-ed door using the inky daub.

Leaving these little windows of color, surrounded by black, allows the frame of the door to play nicely with the colors in the graffiti. Not to mention the fact that the whole thing seems like cool collaborative piece between street artists and the building owner.
We can imagine applying this concept inside by painting over a swath of existing wallpaper, leaving little peeks strategically exposed.

Love this. Such a good idea.

really cool! I would probably have the exposed pieces in a different shape or arrangement, but love the idea!

Yuck.

If you have to deal with graffiti on a regular basis, I guess that's one approach.

While a lot of graffiti is nothing more than vandalism, there are some truly talented graffiti artists out there. In the right context it can be an effective method of self expression and an art form. To me this door acknowledges that.

It would actually be a cool wall treatment for the right room.

Love it.

Oh. Ick. That's definitely not for me. This reminds me of those chairs drawn on by children. There are just some kinds of "artistic expression" that I don't appreciate, I guess.

hmmm i appreciate the effort... but its not my cup of tea. i would prefer the hole thing glossy black... and it looks like it could use another coat

Added plus-- if you leave the gang tag exposed, you might not get caught in the cross fire.

Hate it.

It hurts my eyes. But I can see it working with things other than graffiti. A nice pattern perhaps???

Not my favourite idea.
