Look!: Bare Lightbulbs

No lampshade required. Okay, so these aren't your standard lightbulbs. We're not positive, but they look like they might be carbon filament bulbs. At San Francisco's Salt House restaurant, a series of them hang above the bar area. And over by Union Square, we came across a bare-bulb sconce in a fitting room at Barneys:

Down the Peninsula, at Menlo Park's Bistro Vida, we really liked the chandeliers throughout the restaurant:

Maybe this isn't a new trend, but it's something we've definitely been noticing a lot more lately.

They have the same lightbulbs over the bar at Alembic on Haight, too. I noticed them there and at Salt House. I remember both restaurants opening in the same season -- was that fall 2006?

lilalahood - You're right. Salthouse opened just about a year ago.

Those light bulbs are delightful and everywhere. Ritual, my favorite coffeehouse, was also one of the first to have them, and I like how they hung them in a cluster in one corner.
