Look!: Broken Flower in a Teacup

6-16-teacupflower.jpg
It's always a downer to get home with a new bunch of gorgeous flowers only to find that one has already broken off the stem. Luckily, there's an attractive way to save the bloom - just place it in a small container for a whole different type of arrangement.

We stuck this broken peony into a vintage teacup this weekend, and are pretty pleased with the results. Simply snip the stem down close to the flower and place in water - it will continue to open just as it would on a full length stem.

This can, of course, also be done more purposely. We think a cluster of single flowers in cups or bowls would work great as a centerpiece or try using one at every place setting to dress up your table for a dinner party.

What's your favorite way to save broken flowers?

I do this all the time, and that lone flower is always the one people comment on. Makes me wonder why I bother with the other eleven...
