We love clawfoot bathtubs for their capacious, vintage luxury. But what we love even more is that while they're special, they're not too precious to paint a color — like this bold red — to contrast with the shiny white enamel on the inside (more colors after the jump).
The green and pink tubs above work in tandem with another dominant color — natural wood for the former and yellow tiling in the latter. The silver below is allowed to stand out as the only color in an all white room.
Images: Terramia (red, brown and green); My Lifetime (pink); Go Cottage (silver); Rejuvenation (yellow).
my faves are the pink and brown tubs.

Love that wallpaper!
I've actually been considering putting up wallpaper in my bathroom but wonder what type or brands work best. Any recommendations?
Thanks!!

You're making me miss my old apartment. We had TWO original clawfoot tubs, one red, one black.
Now I'm sharing a bathroom and a yucky modern tub.
BOO.

What kind of paint is used to paint these tubs?

love the red one, and love the red wallpaper! (I know I have seen it before, just can't remember what it is...)
we painted the exterior of our clawfoot (in our first house renovation) black... as far as I remember, you use a metal paint (and take care with the prep -- i.e., sanding, good base, etc.) like tremclad.

Re: wallpaper in the bathroom. I once lived in a place where the owners wallpapered, and did something wrong. Despite the better-than-average ventilation, the paper was peeling at every seam in the bathroom, presumably from moisture. VERY unattractive. Make sure it is done properly, or this could be a DIY you come to regret.

Has anyone figured out a source for that wonderful, red wallpaper?

I just bought a house and inherited a tub just like this in navy. I've been wondering exactly how to decorate the bathroom. The tile is currently white with large navy diamonds. I've been rather stumped - and wishing the tub had been redone in white. But now I'm halfway inspired and halfway curious. Anyone have any suggestions?
