One of our favorite areas of this year's San Francisco Decorator Showcase was the Teenage Daughter's Room. Awash in pink and turquoise, it was very playful but also surprisingly chic. Off the bedroom the bath had one aspect we were particularly interested in...
Designer Nancy Van Natta had the glass shower etched with small "No. 5"-like perfume bottles, then painted (we think) labels on the opposite side of the glass as the etching. If you own your home, we could see this technique used to a multitude of effects, should perfume bottles not be your thing. Just grab some glass etching paste and a pretty stencil and you're good to go.
The San Francisco Decorator Showcase is open now through May 25th, with all proceeds benefiting the financial aid program at San Francisco University High School.

If these were removable, maybe. Anyone with teenage daughters knows how quickly their favored brands can change!

I think the idea was that you can use the etching technique to decorate a grown-up bathroom with whatever you want, like abstract geometric patterns or florals or scrolls or something pretty but non-specific.
Also, Chanel is timeless.

They look like those decals you use to avoid bird strikes. I guess these protect against anti-consumerist birds?

It's a neat concept, but this execution is pretty terrible. Admittedly, I'm not going to like it because it's the polar opposite of my personal taste, but even so, the next time you redecorate, then what?

It's a rather clever idea and totally adaptable to personal style, whether novelty or streamlined or over the top.

I can't imagine how etching the glass could be argued as a preferable alternative to decals.

I think this looks pretty bad. It already looks old, dated and tired. I think I dislike the uniformity and shape of the etchings.
Something like this might work better if it was used as an accent along the bottom, or in a corner. But a couple dozen square bottles all lined up in a grid? Eh...
