Look!: Fabric Panel Headboard

carneros_headboard.gif

Easy to make and easy to swap out. We've seen fabric headboards made from scratch on dozens of home and garden shows — usually with an MDF backing, a layer of foam and then fabric stapled on top. But the beds at Napa's Carneros Inn inspire another option if you're looking to turn a pretty panel of fabric into a headboard.

The Inn's beds feature simple wood frames with rods at the top. The headboards are basically curtains. If you try this at home, you can remove and replace the fabric with the seasons. Or if your taste just changes and you're no longer loving your original fabric choice.

I made a fabric headboard with a piece of homasote (sp?) from Home Depot, some padding, nice fabric, and a staple gun. The homasote comes in exactly the right width for a Queen bed and sticks up a good amount. Great thing is, when you're bored of the board, you just take apart and use the materials for something else... I gave the homasote, which is basically soundboard, to a friend who played music and didn't want to disturb roommates/neighbors, donated the padding, and kept the fabric for making a skirt!
