We love Golden Gate Park this time of year and take walks there whenever we can, but we just noticed this flowering tree nursery for the first time. It's off the beaten path and fenced off to prevent public access. Seems a shame. The impact of these trees all groved together in full bloom is really something to behold. It's almost as if they are performing without an audence.
They must be destined for planting in other places, but won't the bossoms be gone very soon?

Whatever the final plan for those trees is (can't tell what they are...ornamental cherry trees maybe?), it's never optimal to plant a tree while it's in bloom. Goes for most plants, actually. Especially annuals (try to buy annuals before they are in bud, or snap the buds/flowers off if they are blooming, and you'll be rewarded with healthier plants later on). Too much of the plant's energy is going into making the flowers, instead of into making new roots.
I wonder if those trees are being held for the big construction job around the Natural History Museum.
