We've been keeping tabs on one of our neighbor's creative home projects. Every month (give or take), this neighbor creates a larger-than-life mobile out of collected objects and hangs it from the front of his/her house. Past mobiles have been crafted using metal scraps, stuffed animals and dolls, tiny liquor bottles, and lots of re-used plastic items. All of the pieces have themes, sometimes tied to an event or holiday happening during the month, other times, they're just appropriate for the season. On our way home from work yesterday, we were delighted to see a brand new creation, this one with an Olympic theme!
Last month, the artist created a colorful and whimsical pleated metal fan. Admittedly, it wasn't our favorite.
But being crossword puzzle fans, we did appreciate this May/June creation.
Some mobiles aren't just seasonally-themed, but also have a message. In April, in time for Earth Day, the artist reminded us to change our lightbulbs to earth-friendly CFL bulbs.
And finally, in March, we were presented with this Easter Bunny mobile. Perhaps the artist's kookiest and creepiest creation yet.
We've never actually seen the person who makes these mobiles, but we've always been impressed with his/her creativity, and the thought and energy put into these massive feats.

Hey, I think I know where that is! Near Alamo Square, right? I live a couple blocks away. :)

I like this idea. I wish I had some place to display something for the neighborhood whenever the whim struck me. None of this is completely fantastic, but it's human. It's almost suburban. People in tract houses tend to put junk out on their lawnscapes for exterior decoration and also for seasons/holidays, but their stuff is almost always storebought. I like this urban idea, it's creative and original. The creator is a frustrated store window designer without store window designer job.

I love this house! I pass by it every day on the 5 Fulton bus! it aways makes my day when I whiz by on the crowded bus! As the bus slides into the Fillmore intersection I reflex on what I just saw! The Victorians in this area are amazing!
