Venerable British textile house, Liberty of London has recruited designer Ross Urwin of Squint to create a line of bespoke Victorian chaise lounges and egg chairs using vintage and reissued Liberty fabrics. Urwin rescues delicately-scaled, well-made piece of furniture from the Victorian and mid-century eras and skillfully reupholsters them with scraps of Liberty's cheerful prints. The end result is bright, happy, and totally original.

A chair (or chaise) like this is as warm an invitation to have a seat as any we can imagine. We see one of these anchoring a room that is otherwise swathed in more neutral colors, a riotous magnet for the eye with its own story: not only about the pedigree of the fabrics and the vintage furniture they cover, but of the handwork they went into re-inventing the whole package.
Liberty's line of one-of-a-kind pieces are available only in London and are no doubt pricey. But these pieces seem so perfect for our Victorian and mod-era interiors that we wouldn't hesitate to copy the idea.
