Look! Kitchen Pantry with a Screen Door

3-30-09-screen-pantry.jpg

This unique take on open kitchen shelving caught our eye, both for the ornate moulding and bright color as well as creative reuse of architectural salvage. The country-style door makes a nice frame for pretty preserves, but would also be a happy accent to the sleekest modern kitchen.

Note the door handle — it's a bent fork. We found this in Country Living's Ultimate Guide to Kitchens.

Cute door, but I don't really need to see the inside of my pantry all the time.

Wow! This would be great for my pantry/laundry door off the kitchen. With a sleek handle matching the new kitchen and in a matching color to the cabinets, it would be a great counterpoint. Now I know what to do with that doorway.

Clever! This might compel me to keep a tidier pantry :)

Love this! So cute. I will keep this in mind for one day when I have a pantry!

I like the idea behind this, but for my taste I would change up a couple of things. Our pantry already has a single-panel door, so I would replace that with glass or plexi, and then frost it. I wouldn't want it to be completely on display!

I agree with als1 that I may want to have frosted glass, or an alternative to that much transparency.

I love that fork door handle, though!

I'd back it with gathered fabric "curtains", but it's really too country for my taste at all...

I think backing it with frosted glass or a translucent coloured plexiglass panel of some sort might be the way I would go, but it's a cute idea.

I grew up in a country themed kitchen (porcelain cows and chickens everywhere) so I usually hate the style. As a kid, the cows made me feel so guilty when I had to eat meat in front of them, that I became a vegitarian for a few years.

I feel strange about liking this so much. I even like the bent fork handle. Is it a full moon? Am I turning into my mother?

That might be a question for another blog/therapist...

I looked at a house that had this, same style of door, and it gave off a very 1980s country kitchen vibe. I don't care for it at all. If you like the look of open shelves, I'd just leave it doorless. Otherwise, a solid door or a frosted door without all the Victorian hoo-haw.

I like this idea... maybe not that type of door exactly, but a different style. It gives alot of interest to something that can be so mundane.

screeeekkkk BAM!

The screen door on the old farmhouse in which I grew up just about drove me insane. I don't think I could ever love one again.

I think it's sweet, and I bet when you turn the light in the pantry off you can't see everything inside it so clearly.

Totally intrigued as this huge difference of opinion on this one, too. Good times.

I thought one of many points of putting stuff in the pantry was to keep them away from sunlight....

Cute...would prefer having a set of these instead of the doors to the laundry closet. I'd use it for a pantry door if I had a pantry.

Love it. What a great closet conversion. Could easily be adapted to any design depending on the screen door.

I love this idea. All I need now is a pantry!
