We might consider Tokyo living the ultimate small-space challenge. Where many people live in one or two rooms roughly 12' x 7' (6 tatami mats) plus a tiny kitchen and bathroom area, small space solutions are de rigueur.
This one spotted in a subway department store gave us pause. It's a fabric basket hanging under a kitchen stool, a concept not too difficult to reproduce (more colorfully, for starters) on this side of the pond.

I'm going to make a pair for the stools in my kitchen, one for clean dishtowels and one for dirty. I don't use paper towels, so I go through a lot of dishtowels in a week, and this will solve the "where do the dirty dishtowels go?" problem that I've had for some time now.

That's adorable. I have no doubt, were these in my house, that there would be a cat in one of the bags on a regular basis.
Which would also be adorable, but not for clean dishtowels. ;-)
