Look!: Lichen Branches at the Dwell Home: Silicon Valley

4-28-08lichenfirst.jpgWe hate to brag, but we're really quite happy with our idea to incorporate lichen-covered branches into the Dwell Home: Silicon Valley. Not only does the chartreuse color work really well with the interior furnishings and finishes, but we love the fact that we were able to bring natural elements into a contemporary home for less than $100!

The branches were purchased at the flower market for $75 (for a bundle that we selected ourselves) and they were placed above two built-in IKEA Expedit shelving units. (Each unit cost $150 and took less than 4 hours (and we aren't pros at assembly) to put together.)

You actually PAID $75 for lichen branches? Just go to your local park and snap a few branches...

Seriously, my d. partner used to gather pine cones in his yard and sell them at the market to people too lazy to just go look for them.

I agree with protogarett. I can't see spending money on sticks that i can get outside for free. I have branches in my house and i love them...even if others think i'm crazy.

Great idea! I dig branches. I bake them before I put them in my terrarriums to ensure there isn't any unwanted fauna. Maybe the price includes collection & kilning/treating expenses?
