Look: Light Canopy

Looking into windows is a guilty pleasure of ours, best indulged at night. That's when you're most likely to catch gems like this, surreptitiously snapped with a cell phone: a dining room canopied by strings of white holiday lights.

Great use of the crown molding and high ceiling of this parlor floor. Dining in this room at night is probably magical. The candle on the porch suggests a dinner party. We wonder whether the owners keep them up all the time or just for festive occasions. All the time, we hope.

Lights strung up year round was a decor staple at my frat house in college.

Nevertheless it did provide a nice light effect inexpensively. I can imagine if well thought out and with a little nicer lights, it could look cool in a normal house too.

Is there something about San Francisco (like bay windows, maybe) that makes the window peeking so great? I've been here 15 years and it's still a favorite entertainment.

I love peeking in people's windows when I go walking in the evening! Seeing their styles and colors (or lack of). But how can I tell the majority of the people on my street that their picture frames should not actually be touching the ceiling?
