Look!: Metal Bathtub

It was the wallpaper that caught our eye but you, dear readers, pine for that bathtub. We feel you there...good news or bad news first?

Good news? We found it here!

Bad news? Here means across the pond and it'll cost you 3600 pounds (not including VAT or shipping). Ouch.

We tried to find it elsewhere for you, but came up short on the "tin finish" part. Most tubs with similar styles seem to favor a copper finish, which doesn't quite float our boat in the same way.

We're guessing you could probably refinish it yourself, but wouldn't you rather just have the real deal?

Anyone out there have any better leads or suggestions?

well, if you can't afford a tub like that ... there's a great hotel in slo that has them in several of their guest rooms. check out the sanitarium spa in san luis obispo. great modern decor too.

If you wanted to tin a copper tub "yourself"...you would need to take it to a large-capacity metal-plater / galvanizer to have it plated, and then probably polish the whole thing and re-seal it.

Not impossible, but not exactly a weekend DIY either. Also, for persons who want to make low-environmental impact choices, electroplating / galvanizing is a filthy, toxic process that definitely has an adverse impact on local quality of life.

That said, a domestic manufacturer of copper tubs could almost certainly put a custom plate finish on one of their products, for a price.

£3600 = what, $100,000? Damn you, exchange rate. Thanks for researching it, though.
