Look! Modern Kid's Bedroom

9-13-blueant1.jpgBlue Ant Studio is rapidly becoming one of our favorite blogs. We loved their homebrew baby safety gate -- which we were about to blog when AT:NY slinked it, and both AT:Chicago and AT:LA featured it. (If you haven't seen it, check it out below the jump; more information is here.)

Joel and Maria Pirela recently posted photos of their daughter Isabella's bedroom, which nicely incorporates modern design in a kid-friendly (well, baby-friendly, anyway) environment.

AT:SF parents, how have you meshed modern design and your kids' needs? We'd love to see photos.

That lamp on the wall in the stairway - I have to have it. Please - where did you get it? Please?

It doesn't look so kid-friendly to me. I have an 18 month old son, and he likes to have his books, toys etc stored within reach, not on tall shelves like that. I'm having a pretty darn hard time finding aesthetically pleasing design in actual kid-user-friendly furniture.

its a very good looking place. but its so clean , neat, and organized, i wonder if there is really a kid living there.

Matilda, you're in luck. The lamp is homemade and it's not too hard or expensive to do. I think that in this case the homeowners used bulbs in a couple different sizes.

Thanks for the kind words... That photo was done pre-isabella's birth. She is now 16 months but the room looks the same sans the changing station on the top of the dresser. On the lower shelves Isabella has all the stuff she uses inside the boxes, on the mid-top shelves are stored the stuff like diapers/creams/stuff that we use but she doesn't. My wife and I are pretty neat and the house looks always like that. When Isabella is playing that's another story but as soon as she's done, all the toys go back to hiding mode.
In regards of the lamp, pretty easy to do and fun. Ours is not symetrical but rather "organic" you can change the shape as you wish. just buy the outlet splitters at HD and have fun. Keep the watts of the bulbs down to a minimum and install a dimmer. Thanks again for the kind words!

And look! A stroller that costs more than the average earthling makes in a year... and doesn't even fold!

This is a beautiful room. What is the name of the green paint that you used?
