Look!: My Mother's Blue Bedroom

9-16-08blueroommain.jpgYes, I broke the "we" rule. But really, she is my mother. Anyway, mother dearest has an absolutely beautiful blue bedroom that we just adore. Our reasoning? Check it out (and a night shot) after the jump.

9-16-08blueroomnight.jpgSo, why do we love it? Zero-VOC paint, bed she made herself, great art from a local artist (at the time) named Ogi... it was designed very inexpensively, and it's still absolutely gorgeous. Plus, it suits my mom, which is all that really matters, isn't it?

Where did she get the light orb that sits at the foot of the bed, and who makes it?

Thanks.

is there a "we" rule?

Yeah, what's the "we" rule? Is it writing every post in the first person plural? Because I think that is really annoying.

But anyway, I do like your mother's room. It looks all icy and cold, which makes me want to snuggle under the covers.

Typically as an editor, you revert to using “we” rather than “I” but man, I would proudly drop the “we” for this post. That room is gorgeous. Atta girl, AT Mom.

I would love to wake up in that room.

I love this room. It's very simple but elegant at the same time. I'd love to see a detail of the artwork.

I love the art on the wall, but I'm too distracted by the unmade bed to really appreciate the day shot. Your mom does sound really cool though.

ltblmr-funny b/c I was thinking that the bed looks so inviting unmade like that-it looks like it is just waiting for someone to crawl back in and snuggle down.

Please stop using "we"! It's really annoying.

Every time someone stops using it there are plenty of us in the comments asking you to keep stopping it. So why does AT keep doing it?

Do a survey if you want numbers, but I'm convinced that most AT readers hate (or at least dislike/don't prefer) the "we."

Sometimes I can take the 'we' as a stylistic variation, but I wish the bloggers would re-read some of the things they say and how ridiculous they come out. It can sound very painfully silly, and it's like sticking to this awkward dumb rule matters more to you than writing with competence and fluidity. It's rigid and forced and yucky a lot of the time.

Anyway, I like this room. Which end is where the head goes?

I can't believe this! Years ago (maybe two or three), I found Ogi's work, love it, saw this exact picture on his site and promised myself that I'd do my own series and display it like that. Most excellent.

I think the "we" rule is silly. You're bloggers! You should sound like individuals with your own thoughts and ideas, not like part of some big faceless blogger conglomerate.

I suppose it does create some sort of cohesive "voice" and seemingly the same point of view, but you're obviously indiviudals with your own tastes & ideas.

Usually, the "we" comes across as pretentious and, in a way, goofy.
We (hehe) would be more than happy to see the rule go away.

That room is so serene! Beautiful! And amazing art!

(Also... I agree with everyone else about the "we" rule... I always see who wrote the post, anyway... so it always seems weird. You all (sorry...) have such distinct personalities!)

I love your mom's room - my bedroom is a similar blue-to-gray and it's the most peaceful place in my condo. The color in my room is a Benjamin Moore match of the ridiculously expensive but beautiful Farrow & Ball 'Borrowed Light' and I adore it.
