Look!: My Mother's Blue Bedroom, Part 2

9-17-08momsroom.jpgYesterday I wrote about my mother's blue bedroom. You all had such wonderful things to say, so I thought I'd show you just one more shot. Possibly my favorite photo of the bunch, as it really shows off what makes her room special: the natural light that pours in in the morning.

A couple things that I should let you know about my mom's room:

• The paintings are not installed in this shot. This was before she had them.
• Her bed has no headboard, she hates them.
• Curtain is just tool tulle. Like, 3 yards.
• Yes, the bed isn't made, but it usually is. It's just that right when she wakes up in the morning... like when I took this shot, it's just so inviting the way it is.
• The light (mini glo ball) is from FLOS.
• You're right, that Sony clock she has is at least 20 years old.

Again, thanks for all the kind words yesterday!

My tulle is IKEA LILL. World's best deal in window treatments.

This looks so incredibly peaceful. It has that feeling that, it would help anyone with insomnia and would transport one to sweet dreams and a nice life.

Thanks for filling my world with a lovely memory of studying with Lilo Raymond. Your image is classic Lilo.

Thank you for taking me there. She is a spectacular person who encouraged a young photographer to travel (even if you must borrow money to do so) drink a glass of wine every day and not look at life in such "shrill light" (it sounds far better with her accent!) Those were words that changed my life. Thank you Lilo.

And thank you, for reminding of me of such an extraordinary photographer.

Post Script: In the event, that you are not familiar with her work, the piece to which I refer, is called "Morning Bed"

Is it possible to see the rest of the room?

I absolutely love the simplicity of it all, but definitely want to know where those headphones are coming from.

i guess i have the opposite opinion of a lot of people here. I understand you said the painting weren't put in yet, and i saw the pic yesterday and i know that helped it a lot. But for some reason the room from this angle just looks unfinished.

Looks like the kind of setup i had between apartments in college when i just had a bed in the room basically on the floor.

It's nice to see a bedroom that looks good even when the bed isn't made with three different throws six different types and sizes of pillows.

jmorey, I agree. It's the bed on the floor thing that throws me off. But the important thing is she loves it. And what is the point of design if that is not the goal?
