Look!: New Yorker Covers as Wallpaper

9-10-08 new yorker 1.jpgAs long as we can remember, our family has had a subscription to The New Yorker. When we were too young (or perhaps too disinterested) to read the articles, we still loved to look at the great cover art. Our mom would save the illustrations, and was way ahead of the curve many years ago when she decided to give them a proper showcase.

9-10-08 new yorker .jpgOur small downstairs bathroom needed some oomph, so she picked out her favorite covers and created a wallpaper out of them. It still makes us smile whenever we see it, and we think it's a great idea for anyone who has trouble getting rid of magazines. And if she gets sick of any of the illustrations, it's fairly easy to switch one out for any of her new favorites.

If The New Yorker isn't your cup of tea (yes, we realize this is AT:SF, after all), why not substitute with one of your favorites? Or maybe try this idea using pages of text, instead.

My teacher did that in her powder back in the early 1980s. It was really cute.

hi there! according to mom, she started off with wallpaper sizing, put up the covers, then finished off with a sealer. at the time, i guess the address labels were easy to peal off, but that has since changed. hope this helps!

If those magazines are old, they may have shipped in brown paper wrapping. No sticky labels. That's how we got the New Yorker when I was a kid.

Ah, yes. The New Yorker before it showed Obama in a turban fist-bumping Michelle in combat boots with an AK-47.

Just go straight to the source, and put this artist's stuff on your wall. she has plenty of stuff in the new yorker, and it'd be a fine addition to yer bland wall.

It looks like a country sampler quilt gone bad and slapped up on the wall.

The house across the street from us when I was growing up had this in their bathroom -- it was a commercial wallpaper, though.

I saw this in someone's home when I was a child and adored it. Now I have a great collection of old ones (via ebay), but have yet to live in an apt. with a powder room, rats! I tried it in a normal bathroom once and they all peeled off from the humidity.
