Look! Ornament Lighting at The Observatory

1-7-09 ornaments 1.JPGSo the little wire hooks fell off of all your Christmas ornaments and you're wondering how to make them useful again. Here's a thought -- create some colorful and contemporary lighting. Spotted in the bathrooms of The Observatory in SE Portland, this idea makes it easy to find a use for holiday decor all year long.

While we can't explain precisely how they did it, it appears that the base is a pretty simple light box. Wires strung with different sizes and colors of ornaments are then criss-crossed and circled over the top, disguising the original source without entirely blocking the light.

Since The Observatory just opened, we have no idea whether the festive decor will stick around for the rest of '09, but for now, it certainly brings a little levity to the loo.

looks like they used a wire wreath-form, though i'm not sure how they secured the bits at the center.

Thanks for beating me to the link, chowbaby! That is the first thing I thought of when I saw the post. Myles has a very creative flair. I wonder if she reads AP?
