Stenciling our house numbers in window film on the glass of our front door was one of the most rewarding small projects we've accomplished in the last year. Turns out it's a gift that keeps on giving, as we continue to be pleased by the projections the numbers make on the floor.
We love it because most of the time we see our house numbers backward, from the inside. The projection lets us see our handiwork the way it's supposed to be read. The effect seems to be best just after lunchtime on a sunny day.

now my dog would follow that patch of sunlight, small as it, all day just to be 'in the sun'

i like it. it somehow seems very dashiell hammett-private eye-esque.
incidentally, i've noticed a lot of houses lately spelling out their house numbers (i.e., 'one thousand and one' instead of 1001). anyone else been seeing this?

Lovely!

How are the numbers brighter than the surrounding? I would have expected them to cast a shadow (they look dark on the window). Also, how did they get reversed? Is it reflecting off of something else?

I second the private-eye-esque comment - very noir!

katiebug, I've seen that too. It's kind of annoying IMO. If you're looking for a specific building, it's a lot quicker for your brain to process if it's just in numbers rather than fivethousandfortyfive.

love this btw. Will have to look into doing something similar at my next abode.
