There's DIY and then there's this — a pendant lamp made almost entirely of paper clips. Designed by Gary Ponzo for Metropolitain Home's 'Californication' showcase house, it's quite the showstopper (close-up after the jump).

We like the rounded, geometric overall shape and pattern detail, as well as the mercury-tipped lightbulb to prevent it from being too bare.

OMG I love it and its perfect for the light fixture situation i have going on in the apartment. I'd be happy to DIY but need a real close up or some instructions or some idea of whats happening with the clips there. anyone???

We don't like you, zap.
But We love this pendant!

We like the pendant but we're on the fence about the room in general. But what is the column in the corner? Someone called it a "book column" but I'm having trouble seeing that. Anyone know?

OK, I went to the site and saw the close up. It is indeed books. My apology for doubting!

I am sorry but that room is just trying way too hard. That lounge chair, that art and desk is giving me bad 80's condo flashbacks and I love blue but even that feels outdated.
Not liking the light fixture, what a mess to dust.

As a librarian, I really HATE the book column though. Admittedly, lots of older books are junk nobody wants to read, but the implication of books as building blocks without intrinsic value is upsetting!
(Still, if you want to make one, just ask any library about what happens to their withdrawls. Ours go to a book sale, but the ones that aren't likely to sell go to a dumpster which we pay to have recycled. They could be yours!)

Nice! Now, if only I were to break my leg or something and have to stay in bed for a few weeks, I could totally whip one up!
