Back in the beginning of August we posted Paul Ybarbo's house tour. And although we absolutely adore and love the entire apartment, we were most smitten by his black and white bathroom.
Back in the beginning of August we posted Paul Ybarbo's house tour. And although we absolutely adore and love the entire apartment, we were most smitten by his black and white bathroom.
Paul didn't change anything from the original bathroom and it's a great example of the architecture and design you see in Nob Hill (where his apartment is).

This looks great, but recently I had an experience that makes me wonder about how well framed pictures do so close to a water source. I have a ventilation fan in my bathroom and I hung two framed pictured behind the toilet. Over the course of the Tokyo summer, vast quantities of mold accumulated on the back of the pictures. Perhaps this works well in non-humid climates though?
At any rate, I envy these great-looking baths. :-)

Does Paul not require a shower curtain? Does he always take baths?

That is adorable. At this point, I need a house with 50 bedrooms and 50 bathrooms, because the "house pr0n" folder on my laptop now has over 300 photos of things I like and want to see in my house at some point.
i suck.

This has got to be a guest bath - there's no shower head or apparatus - otherwise those photos hanging over the tub would be moldy and ruint in no time.

though I agree this is probably a guest bath... some people prefer soaks over showers. I know, I think it's shocking, too. But it's true!! My mom and a friend are both die-hard bath takers, for hair-washing and all. Point: the art over the tub might work out just fine for those who aren't fond of vertical bathing.

Please don't ever put a rare or one-of-a-kind photograph in the bathroom. You might as well tear it up and toss it in the trash.

B&W. It's been done and done and done and done. But I never tire of seeing it done well.
p.s. Luff the Sloan type flush valve. You don't see that in residential applications..

yay for Art hung in the bathroom!
But Yes, Fontessa is completely correct, don't hang ANYTHING special, get a reproduction.
And keep an eye on it, it may take a few hangings before you come up with the best materials for your bathroom.

The black and white looks nice, but I think brighter lighting would help. In the photos, it looks like some brightly colored accents would freshen the place up and even make it look cleaner and less dingy, but brighter lights would probably do just as well.

I was the one who took the photos, so I might be able to answer some of the questions.
It's not a half bath. And it's actually quite large, just difficult to photograph. What you don't see is the separate shower that's tucked into a corner (and impossible to photograph). That's why there's no shower curtain on the bathtub.
Also, the lighting is perfect, it's just difficult to capture that with a camera.

That's a beautiful bathroom. I am just sad that my bathroom could never, ever look that clean!

Love that bathroom - especially the black floors.
