Look!: Puerto Vallarta Shower

3-6-look1.jpg

We wonder why most Americans have a need for shower doors. This shower in the Mexican B&B we stayed in last year didn't have doors, and water didn't splash all over the bathroom. It seems so much more spacious, as well as practical and easy-to-clean. And it's definitely more pleasant.

(We had just finished writing this post when we noticed that, ironically enough, AT:NY blogged a sink in Puerto Vallarta today.)

I've never liked shower doors. When I redid my bathroom I nixed the glass door for a shower curtain. Why? because you can toss the shower curtain in the washer with a couple of towels and it gets clean. No build up of scum that a trip to Long's won't cure. I perfer clear curtains.

I need something to keep the warm air in. I hate shaving my legs when there is cold air around. I can never stay warm in this kind of shower. My sister has one that you walk into, she has a huge house, and I freeze.

We chose to leave off the door in our tiled walk-in shower. The opening is less wide than a regular door but I have not had a big splashing issue. I do make sure the showerhead is not pointed outward, but the saltillo tile floor just gets slightly damp. We did have the contractor install special waterproof subflooring, however. I love not having to worry about cleaning a door or washing a shower curtain.

I'm with ya, Jen. In my in-laws' last house, their shower was huge, and I was always cold when I used it.
