apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Look!: Radiator Shelf

Wasted space? Not any more. We've always loved radiators for their ability to heat a room without blowing dust around, but have struggled with the space they take up, especially in small apartments. Our cheap and quick solution: install a shelf 6" above the radiator. . .

The space between the heat source and the shelf is enough to prevent any warping or over heating of objects placed on top. And the extra space it gives us, which can be used for display, book storage, or as a side table, is much appreciated.

    Otherwise, it's a nice idea.

The gap may be practical but it looks awkward.

This only looks good if your radiators are level, which mine, for various reasons, are not.
