This is a little preview of a great store we'll be posting about next week, but we couldn't wait to show you this clever idea. It's a display bowl filled with shattered safety glass — the detritus of a break-in to the store owner's car.

The glass has a fabulous luminous quality, and we could see it as a bed for a jewelry display at home. The safety glass is surprisingly ouch-less by design, and we had no problem picking up handfuls.
We say: what a way to make lemonade when you've got lemons!
haha. seriously! talk about recycling. when our car was stolen (and we ended up stealing it back from a dodgy part in London) we kept the crowbar they used to break in...it actually came in handy a lot! lol

ha! when i was in high school, my friends and i made an acrylic bong, errr... water pipe and filled the bottom with broken safety glass. there was a partition, so the water sat above the glass.

would look beautiful in a clear crystal bowl with votive candles burning in it!

We recently had all of our car windows blown out by a tornado. During clean up, we were plagued by very small shards of glass lodging in our hands, and we each sustained several little cuts. To this day there are tiny shards still in the carpet and upholstery of the car that end up in our hands, feet, etc. I guess if you pick through and choose just the bigger square chunks for decorative purposes it would be cool, but just be careful!

Hah, interesting re-use of garbage. They should sweep up all the broken glass on the streets in the Mission to use for this. Pretty home decor AND smaller likelihood of a punctured bike tire! Everybody wins!
