Look! Staggered Kitchen Shelving

3-24-09-shelving.jpg

Shelving in the kitchen can't really be mistaken for anything else — it's either hidden within wall-mounted cabinets or, when it's open shelving, has a linear, utilitarian look to it. The way these are mounted they look more like display shelves we might put in our living room, but of course it works equally well in the kitchen.

The staggered pattern cleverly allows space for taller things, like the baking sheets and pot tops pictured. The natural woodgrain also soften the look, preventing it from being too institutional.

Great idea, though the baking pans seem to be the only ones really taking advantage of the staggering. Certainly a good look! One thing though, at my place those recycling bins would get skanky right quick.

This would be a great idea for me since I accidentally rented an apartment with no kitchen cabinet space! I also like hanging pots and pans with a metal rod and hooks.

I'm not really sure I like this. In fact, I'm sure I don't like this. Maybe its the length of the shelves or the oddness of those baskets on the bottom shelf. I'm not exactly sure what it is but this shelving system would be a "no" for me.

Yikes, put that Le Creuset on a lower shelf, it's making me nervous... also, someone should probably take the sticker off before cooking with it! =P

Anyway it's an interesting idea, but I really prefer closed shelving for all my kitchen stuff... it's all very nice, but I *use* it constantly and so I like to keep it clean and ready to go... with open shelving I find you often have to re-wash something before it can be used.

This drives me crazy. I guess I'm too anal for this degree of staggering.
