Look! Tricked-Out Bed Frame

1-7-09-bed-hanger.jpg

We never knew a bed frame could (nor did we consider wanting it to) do so much. This industrious Ikea hacker crammed five functions into a humble bed frame, extending it with simple, black ABS piping. Can you spot all the additions? (More photos after the jump).

They are: a clothes rack, a bedside lamp, speakers and an alarm clock, in addition to the original function of keeping the mattress in place off of the floor.

Step-by-step instructions are here.

inventive, but it's hideous!

I think lofting the bed and using the underneath as a closet (putting a dresser there, adding a lengthwise rod for hanging clothes, etc) is more attractive and functional provided the ceilings are high enough. This is just an idea i have in my head that I've never seen before. Plus it would be easier to hide with a curtain or something.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Cleaver. Perfect for that Frat boy who doesn't care who goes to bed with him.

Haha how long are the clothes going to hang there when the best starts rocking???

This is how I picture a hopeless down on their luck bachelor living.

If you place nails at the ends of the clothes rack bar, so that they create a barrier, the clothes won't fall off if the bed shakes.

I see many a male friend of mine loving this bed. It's very creative. :)

It's very creative, the loft bed idea is better, but considering if the guy was in a very thight budget this is what he could do to solve his problem, and I guess he must be very proud of his creation.

Loreta, if the guy could afford to do this to his bed, he probably could have lofted his bed a lot cheaper. I really loved the idea maggiesfarm had - using the space under the lofted bed as a fairly large closet really.

It looks hideous as is - hope he doesn't plan to ever have anyone over.

The bionic bedframe - definitely not worth 6 million.

I think the problem here is that this guy never intended his creation to be highlighted on a design blog of all places, yet it ended up on AT:SF for some strange reason. I doubt his inspiration was design-oriented but rather intended for functionality. I think it's very clever.
