Purple was our favorite color growing up, and we still have a decent soft spot for it. Recently we came across these two kitchens designed around the royal hue, and we're struck by how versatile it is, coordinating with gray for a modern look, and brown for a warmer feel.

Whoa... who makes those purple window shades?

Oop. Nevermind. I clicked the link, as I should have done in the first place. The shades are by Hunter-Douglas.

I called it "eggplant" when I painted my lower cabinets that color in 1994.
The uppers and walls were a green - tried for sage but got more like a Martha Stewart egg color - could never tell if it was blue or green. The folks that bought the place in 2006 loved it and kept it!
I was working with an avocado green stove, and vinyl and formica from the 50's remodel - yellows and greens (boomerangs on the counters.)

I had a purple kitchen in a townhouse I owned a few years abck. The previous owners had selected the color, which was darker than a periwinkle but lighter than an eggplant. And when I moved in, my turquoise 1963 Frigidaire refrigerator really popped against the purple walls and bright white cabinets.

Installed in front of window. That is a big code violation.

Re: purple blinds
We have Hunter Douglas Kashmir purple blinds -- forget the colour name, but unfortunately, I think the colour has been discontinued. We ordered Everest White from an online retailer, and were sent deep purple instead. They replaced it, but while we waited we installed the purple ones and found they were perfect! Lucky chance.
As for the "code violation" -- looks like it is in Europe, and most likely France, where they do not have the same codes.

It seems that our purple blinds are still available! Or at least they are on some websites. The colour reproduction on many websites is off, and they look blue instead of purple.
They are Hunter Douglas KASHMIR Madras Blue Violet XKA-626

oops -- forgot to mention Aqua Amethyst XKA-570, which is a reddish purple.

Both of these colours are really great for nurseries and kids' rooms, as they shade -- perfect for naps.

"That is a big code violation."
When I build my house, I'm going to put a stove in front of the windows, leave railings off the staircases and have showerheads that light up and toilets with little sinks in the lids...
...then sit back and wait for the illnesses, deaths and electrocutions.
