Look! Vertical Hat Display

4-20-09-hats.jpg

This string of wall-mounted hats caught our eye, as we're always on the lookout for clever ways to display collections. In this case, it doesn't hurt that the hats themselves are so awesome, in a beautiful range of subtle, cool colors.

Each hat appears to be clipped to a ribbon hanging from the picture rail. Strange as it may sound, we might consider doing something similar in the kitchen, with our collection of dishtowels.

yay! i've been looking for a way to corral all my hats (and still be able to see what i've got as opposed to just sticking them in a closet).

If you're into hates, I think it's a great way to display them!

I think that they have several wooden mug-racks attached to the wall, with the hats hung on the pegs. If you look closely, there are what appear to be bits of the wooden framework showing on the right-hand side next to the grey hat and next to the straw hat.

In the entryway of my new apartment, there is a built-in, recessed area that has two large shelves below and a big empty arch-topped space above the shelves. I've been trying to figure out how to best use that space. I've been thinking that I'd use the bottom shelves for shoe storage (which would also encourage visitors to take off their shoes when they come in), and use the big, curved empty wall space for displaying my various hats.

So, instead of a vertical strip of hats, picture a four or five foot long, three foot wide area with an arched top, filled in with cute, symmetrically-spaced hats.

What do you think - sound like a good idea?

That sounds like it has the potential to be a unique decorative feature. You might think about painting the inside of the archway an accent color, if that is an option. I would also be inclined to put a mirror in that spot, as that is another thing that is nice to have near an entryway. I'm visualising a kind of border of hats around a mirror, but that may or may not be something that would actually work in your space. Good luck...

I love this, and I think what makes it work is that the line of hats kind of undulates, it gives it a really relaxed feel. So jplee, maybe your symmetrically spaced hats wouldn't have the same effect :(
