Look! World's Largest Collection on Display

Remember my friend Rachel, who looked so cute posing next to all of the World's Largest Things? We marveled over her photos of the World's Largest landmarks, a collection of experiences rather than objects. For artwork and collections month let's take a look at her awesome DIY display of the photos from her World's Largest collection...

Inspired by a project from the fabulous Photojojo, Rachel and her fiancé created these cardboard ring frames for her photos, repurposing cardboard tubes from paper towels, toilet paper, and so on.

Of course, Rachel's photos are especially fun because they depict strange and glorious landmarks, but we love the idea of using this project to commemorate any vacation or to display a collection of experiences over time. If you and your family, for example, always check out the aquarium in every city you visit, why not highlight a photo from each of those visits? Take a tip from Rachel's technique and play with the angles and sizing of your photos, cropping certain images to create an artful effect.

I work in a public institution and I used to collect the giant toilet paper tube thingys because I knew somewhere down the line I'd find a good DIY use for them. I tried painting them and arranging into a pyramid to look like a Xmas tree and stuffing with presents, and I thought about using them for fat candle molds. Then I admitted to myself that I had a problem for which I was powerless and put all the tubes in the recycling bin. But I think I might ask the building custodians to start saving up those tubes for me again! Argh, so is another obsession born....
