Modern Nurseries: A Show and Tell

2006_09_21_nursery2.jpgKids' Design Month is near its wane, and we're feeling sad that we've only seen one reader nursery. So to get things going, here's ours: it's actually the dining room of our one-bedroom rental, and was furnished on a very small budget, with a combination of nostalgia items (Mom's childhood dresser and much of the art), metro shelves, eBay finds (the rocker and retro tables), paintings from a local artist (the seals), plus Dwell bedding and a borrowed crib. [more pics after the jump]

Much of the challenge of decorating for kids is that their needs constantly change, so we'd love to see where other readers' kids reside, especially those in the process of evolving from baby to toddler and beyond.

Send your nursery/kid room solutions our way for show and tell!

I like the rocking chair and the two side tables. Good Ebay scores!

I love the metro shelving over the dresser. Both items can easily be used elswhere later.

I love your whale print! I've seen that before on the NY Transit Museum website--it's so perfect in a nursery. How did you frame it? Was it expensive because of the odd size?

Great room!

Thanks Heather, and everyone else!

Julie, the subway whale print is indeed from my previous life as a New Yorker. It's by children's illustrator Peter Sis. I begged the Transit Museum for this copy, which was pretty mangled when I got it. They had them in storage and they were all somewhat destroyed. Since it was in bad shape I didn't want to spend a lot framing it, so it's just a DIY foam core mount, with picture framing wire on the back.

Heather and Sydney, fwiw, the rocker is vintage Danish modern, and has a label on it that says "Brahmin." It is very comfy!

The MTA website has some more of the whale posters -- go to http://www.transitmuseumstore.com/ and then look under "posters".
I agree that rocking chair is quite attractive.
