Outdoor Home: Liz's Thrifted Garden Shangri-la

Name: Liz
Location: Lincoln, CA

Welcome to Liz, who is onto something truly wonderful with this garden deck that juxtaposes the colors and textures of new growth with vintage patinas.:

"I built my husband a music studio and added a deck facing what had been an above-ground pool and what was an ugly pit full of debris. We removed most of the pool structure and added a dump truckload of topsoil. Our vegetable garden is now a jungle - the tomato plants are about 5 feet high. The deck is the perfect place to relax and have a cigar (husband, not me). [more pics below jump]

"We have two vintage metal chairs I found at a garage sale, one of which is super-sturdy to accommodate my 6'4" husband (he trashed two of the ordinary ones).

A small wooden folding table I found at a thrift store holds a vintage ashtray and our coffee mugs. A planter of zinnias provides some color.

Unfortunately the nasturtiums I planted hate our heat and look terrible, so I am going to have to replace them. On the ugly chain link fence I wired a bunch of vintage insulators fitted with votive candles. When I light them, it's beautiful."

Thanks, Liz!

I love the insulators! We have a chainlink fence running the back length of our patio... on the other side is a "wall" of bamboo mats, and on our side just ugly fence! What a great idea, I'm gonna borrow it!
